A redirection

Hi everyone in the Blogsphere.   This blog was originally intended to be about my fitness journey as I starting biking several year ago.  As you can already tell, the blog hasn't been updated in a LONG time.  Not only do I bike, I now run, which is crazy!  My husband and I lost a bunch of weight doing the low carb diet in the last two years and we're trying to maintain it. I will try to add some entries about that here as well. We bought a country house and are doing major remodeling to it, along with both of us working full time and the craziness of normal life.  It was suggested by a friend that we start recording our remodeling journey via YouTube, which I will try to do.  However, being halfway through some of our projects, my blog seems a better choice for some things since I have a ton of pictures already and can add them for other to see here.  So if you're looking for one of those beautifully curated blogs, where pictures have been taken with care and everything is pretty, you are in the wrong place. This is what works and what doesn't in all it's realness.  Stay tuned, I hope I can help at least one other person feel more confident about their projects and fitness journeys.

A New Hope

I cannot resist a good Star Wars reference.  On to the bicycling news.  It's been almost a year since I posted.  I should have posted at the end of last summer.  As I was frustrated with yet another saddle failure, my husband is looking at my road bike and looking at my hybrid.  And thus comes the following conversation.

"did you ever have the tailbone problem on your hybrid"

"no"

"Get on your hybrid for a minute."  So I do.

"Look at how far forward you are leaning.   On your road bike your more straight up and down.  Get on your road bike."  So I do that.

"Wow, I am more upright on the road bike."

"When we went and got your bike fitted, you told them that your handlebars felt far and away and too low, so they moved them in and up.  Maybe we shouldn't have moved them up.  Let's take out these spacers and drop the bars back down."

"Okay."

When we dropped the handle bars, it was almost a 2 inch drop.  Being the end of the season and a summer of constant pressure on my tailbone, there was really no way of telling if this fix was going to work.  But this summer, I'm riding.  At first I was cautiously optimistic.  10 miles and I was okay.  Well 10 miles last year and I'd be okay.  I knew I had to put some miles on my bike to see if this would work.  I knew I had to go at least 20 miles minimum.  So about a week and a half ago, I did 20 miles on my own, and what do you know, no pain (aside from your average sit bone pain from not biking in several months).   I was so excited!!  I rode a few more 20 milers and still no pain!!!

Jason is a genius!!!

So now I'm back to just biking.  And my summer goal is complete a century.  Part of that is training and after talking with Rhi, a weekly goal of 100 miles was set.  AND I DID IT.   well at least this week.  My sit bones are not used to this abuse, so padded shorts are a must.  I went on a 30 mile ride on Monday and again no tailbone problems.  All because of my handle bars, not my saddle.

Speedy Turtle Rides Again!  and this time without tail pain :)
